Ideasicleˣ: The First Advertising SaaS Platform For Virtual Creativity.
If timing is whatever, then Ideasicleˣ is the poster kid. Just when the world closes down due to Covid-19, a platform shows up that assists speed up imagination through remote work. I was fascinated enough with the principle, especially as a new company concept machine, to connect to its founder, Will Burns, for more information about it.
” What the world needs now are concepts. Lots and great deals of concepts.” Ideasicleˣ Founder, Will Burns
Michael: First, what is Ideasicleˣ?
Will: Ideasicleˣ is a software platform for marketing agencies (a SaaS), where subscribers can hire groups of four freelancers, inform them, enjoy the four work as a group publishing ideas and structure on each others concepts, and pay them after the work is done, and do it all right on the platform. And if theres a freelancer they desire to use, but he or she isnt in the Ideasicleˣ database theres a method to invite them using the freelancers email address.
Prior to the pandemic, there were 57.3 million individuals freelancing in the U.S. Its approximated that by 2027 there will be 86.5 million freelancers (source: Upwork).
Michael: Did you develop this concept because of Covid?
Will: It may look that method, but no. I have been developing this concept for about ten years now. I started the initial Ideasicle (no X) by utilizing off-the-shelf software and about thirty creative professionals I d worked with at Wieden, Goodby, Arnold or another of my agencies past. I d get the clients, recruit groups for the jobs, brief them, monitor the idea development, present the concepts to the client, and pay the experts. But with Ideasicleˣ companies can do all of that themselves whenever they require concepts.
Michael: What kinds of concept projects are ideal for Ideasicleˣ?
Will: Ideasicleˣ is excellent for big conceptual concepts. Problem-solving– e.g. “Our clients rival just made a relocation in the marketplace, what can our client do as a counter relocation?” Its likewise great for more authoritative imaginative requirements like huge ad campaign platforms, brand ideas/tag lines, marketing ideas, names (for business, products, etc.), PR stunts, go-to-market concepts, social media concepts, and so on. While its excellent for advertising campaign, its less great for things like TV scripts or composing copy or design work like logo designs. Anything you would not want done “by committee” is most likely not perfect.
Michael: How does it work?
Will: Subscribers get a Command Center or a control panel with all their active idea jobs. On the Ideasicleˣ platform they open a new job, submit the essential information including just how much theyre willing to pay the freelancers, search and recruit a team of four from our database of freelancers and once you select your group an e-mail heads out to them alerting them and connecting them to the Idea Stream page. On that page, the freelancers can view the briefing materials (video and pdf of the quick) and instantly start posting concepts. And there are effective tools readily available for them to get whats in their go out onto the post– they can embed photos and videos, theres a thesaurus and dictionary, and great deals of typeface flexibility. When a freelancer posts a concept from their PC, tablet, or phone, the rest of the group is informed through email and linked right to that post so they can read it and then develop upon it. Thats really the magic of Ideasicleˣ– all the building and riffing that goes on in between the freelancers on the team. The client can pay the freelancers right from the platform.
Michael: How did you get to four as the number of team members?
Will: Ten years back when I started the first Ideasicle I didnt know what number would be best. I attempted having 8 or 10 working on tasks initially however what I understood is with that lots of people theres less ownership of the job and its a little frightening to post any ideas to such a crowd. I knocked it down to 6, then 5 and finally 4. Four is the best number due to the fact that its not a lot of that its frightening, everyone feels real ownership over the project, and you still get more perspectives clashing than the common group of 2 (writer/art director).
Michael: What is the output of an Ideasicleˣ job?
Will: As the freelancers publish more and more concepts, it dynamically fills what we call the “Idea Stream” with posts, newest concepts on top. In other words, you wont get ended up comps coming out of this process, but a flurry of ideas over a couple of days to then prepare for discussion with your own groups.
Michael: Is there a cost-benefit?
Will: Yes. Agencies are in complete control of what they pay the freelancers. They can invite numerous freelancers (more than 4) for a job and offer whatever amount its worth to the agency, per freelancer. Some freelancers may balk at the cash and turn it down, but some may not be extremely hectic at that moment, may think its an enjoyable assignment and say yes. Its genuinely market forces at work. On the flip side, because Ideasicleˣ is entirely virtual the freelancers can work on numerous projects across various agencies, so they stand to make more cash doing what they enjoy. Its like an idea economy.
Michael: When will Ideasicleˣ be available?
Will: We are beta testing the platform now with a few firms (going actually well). Those 50 customers will get their memberships at 1/2 off, so your readers may want to sign up for our e-mail list so they get informed the platform is live.
Michael: Why did you create Ideasicleˣ?
Will: I have actually constantly enjoyed seeing new ideas being born into the world. I get the chills when I see, or have an excellent idea. Its a genuine excitement to me. With Ideasicleˣ I get excited understanding that thousands if not millions of concepts will exist that might not otherwise have. Thats why I created it. More concepts in the world.
